Tips on How to Make Hearing Devices Last Longer
Taking care of your hearing devices is an important part of maintaining good hearing health. With proper care and maintenance, hearing devices can last for several years. In this blog, we’ll discuss some tips on how to take care of your hearing devices to make them last longer.
Cleaning your Hearing DEVICES
Cleaning your hearing devices on a regular basis is essential for keeping them in good condition and preventing damage. Use a clean, dry, soft cloth or a hearing device cleaning brush to remove any wax, dirt or debris. Be sure not to use any harsh chemicals as this can damage the delicate parts of the hearing devices. Additionally, it’s important to clean the microphone and receiver openings to ensure that sound is being accurately transmitted.
Hearing Devices are water resistant, NOT waterproof
Hearing devices used to be almost waterproof, until the rechargeable battery came into play. They are still water resistant, but it is not recommended to have them completely submerged in water. Many people do walk in the shower with their devices on and we take an extra step at an appointment to dry them out. This can be a good sign the devices have just become a part of the patient and they do not even realize they are on! If possible though, steer clear of water submersion.
Have them Serviced Regularly
It’s important to have your hearing devices serviced regularly by a professional. During this time, the hearing devices will be examined to check for any damage or faults, with any necessary repairs or adjustments performed. A deep cleaning of the devices will be provided, as well as any fine tune adjustments to programming settings, as discussed by patient and provider.
By taking the time to properly maintain your hearing devices, you can ensure that they last longer and remain in good condition. Additionally, regular maintenance can help to reduce the need for costly repairs. If you have any questions about hearing device maintenance, be sure to reach out to us for more information.
