Meet Jeanne – Hearing & Tinnitus Problems Identified During COVID

“I discovered my hearing loss working in a retail store during COVID. We had to wear masks, and I just couldn’t hear customers talking to me. I’d have them repeat things three or four times, and they’d say something, and I could see they were talking to me, but I couldn’t hear them. After like two or three times, I’d just shake my head and say, “Yeah, yeah, I get it.” But sorry to all those customers I probably screwed over. I didn’t realize I was reading lips. It had been so normal for me, and then you threw that mask on, and I couldn’t see anybody’s lips anymore. It was kind of a scary thing. I couldn’t hear that well, so I told my husband, “I think it’s time we do something because it’s just not feasible anymore.”

Making Her Choice for Hearing Loss & Tinnitus Treatment

I chose here because, honestly, it had “tinnitus” in the name, and I knew that was part of my problem. Also, the sound I get sometimes, it’s different. It’ll do different things, but it’s always a high-pitched squeal, you know, like when a TV show has that emergency broadcasting sound. That’s what mine sounds like all the time. So, I made an appointment here with Dr. Beki. We did the hearing test, and Dr. Beki slipped some hearing aids in my ears. She asked me questions while typing on her keyboard, and all of a sudden, the sound went off. I thought I was going to lose it. I didn’t realize how much I couldn’t hear. It was like a night and day difference. She flipped it back on, and I walked out of the store with the same ones.

In group conversations, sometimes you get a lot of background noise, and Oticon, the hearing aid I have, has an app. You can take out some of that background noise, so you can hear people’s speech more. It’s amazing how much more the conversation means when you can hear it all.

Her Recommendation to Others

This staff, I can’t even say enough about them. I’ve recommended them to everybody I know. This has been the best experience of my life. I don’t think I would be living the life I lead right now without being able to hear as well as I do. Your hearing is so important. Being able to hear is probably worth any amount of money in the world. This staff treats me every three months when I come in and every year for a hearing check, and they treat me like I’m part of the group.”
